On the 15th January 2007, marcus evans’ Corporate Responsibility agenda took off with the implementation of the company’s mentoring programme in co-operation with St George’s RC School in North London. The project is fully supported by the Westminster Council.
The school has gone through difficult times in the past when the headmaster Philip Lawrence was murdered as he protected a pupil from an attack. As a result the option of permanent closure was looming. Today the school aspires to provide high level education and all the skills and qualifications children need to secure a career, further studies and social development in the future. Martin Tissot, St George’s new head, has a strong belief in the effect of mentoring and together with marcus evans’ volunteer mentors, they will provide the fundamentals for a co-operation that has its sole purpose to help children increase their self-confidence and the belief that a successful future is ahead of them.
Sally Melvin, the Westminster's Mentoring Co-ordinator said she was delighted that marcus evans is developing a relationship with St George's RC School and was looking forward to a successful year of mentoring. She remarked that positive intervention through mentoring, during formative teenage years, is proven to help raise self esteem, expectations and employability amongst students. |

In Sydney, the staff at marcus evans are mentors to 14 year olds at the Leichhardt school in the city, with the mentors and mentees meeting up every fortnight to have lunch together and follow specific discussions on the teenager's recent experiences and developments. The school and department of education are heavily involved in this programme, and have remarked how quickly the mentees have opened up to the mentors and how strong relationships have been forged. The meetings help the mentees focus on their strengths, weaknesses and goals, and offer the chance to discuss things to a neutral party who remains objective and helpful. So far the programme has helped the mentees immensely with motivation and focus at school, and also offers the mentors a real experience in mentoring and a new dimension to their work. |

In Johannesburg, the staff are heavily involved with the Thandani orphanage, and schedule regular meetings and get-togethers with the children who are all ages and backgrounds. The meetings and outings are great fun for the children, not to mention for the staff, and help give the children that extra support and exposure outside of the home that they need. |

Via marcus evans’ mentoring programme, professional guidance and personal support will be voluntarily provided by marcus evans staff to selected pupils in the school. The mentors will support the participating teenagers, helping them develop a positive disposition towards and a better understanding of education and employment opportunities. The children will be given the chance to get a first hand experience of work-related issues and discover future opportunities for themselves in the employment market.
marcus evans’ corporate values and aspirations, fully correspond with its mentoring programme; ‘Quality, proactivity, energy and success’ are among the values to be shared with teenagers. And above all the trust that each and every young person can master its own future, prosper and positively contribute to the wider community. Adnan Quazi, marcus evans CEO, Europe and North America, stated that ‘this is a great opportunity for us as a company to share our values to those at a key stage in their lives and demonstrate how hard work, focus and respect for each other can lead to success and progress in their lives. In the future I am hoping more of our staff will join the programme and we will be able to extend it further. This programme will not only raise our profile with our clients and potential recruits but also provide our staff with the opportunity to gain satisfaction and a sense achievement of being able to give back to the community’.
marcus evans Ltd is proud to be part of this scheme and is committed to Corporate Social Responsibility. |
